INX Media Money Laundering Case: Lookout Notice for P Chidambaram

Former union minister P Chidambaram seems to be in trouble now. The Supreme Court forwarded his petition to the Chief Justice. The Enforcement Directorate has put out a lookout circular for Mr Chidambaram, who has not been seen since the High Court denied him protection from arrest on Tuesday, after which the CBI visited his home in Delhi thrice.

A lookout notice means Mr Chidambaram will not be allowed to leave the country.

Mr Chidambaram is accused of facilitating foreign investment in the INX Media company in 2007 at the instance of his son Karti, who allegedly received kickbacks for his role. Indrani Mukerjea and her husband Peter Mukherjea, who co-founded INX Media in 2007, had been charged with entering into a criminal conspiracy with Karti Chidambaram. K. Chidambaram was arrested in Feb 2018, while P Chidambaram was granted protection against arrest.

The case took a major turn in July 2019 when jailed Indrani Mukherjea agreed to turn approver in the case. Following this, the Delhi HC rejected plea of P Chidambaram.
